Artwork requirements

  • Supply single pages in reading order as a PDF at finished size with 3 mm bleed, not printer spreads.
  • Total page count must be divisible by 4 for saddle stitching.
  • Keep text at least 8 to 10 mm from the trim and spine, more on thicker brochures because of creep.
  • Images at 300 dpi in CMYK; avoid fine text across the centre spread.
  • For spreads where an image crosses the spine, align elements carefully, as stapling can shift them slightly.
  • Include cover pages 1, 2, 3 and 4 in the file, even if inside covers are blank.

Turnaround options

Standard turnaround is confirmed on your quote and is recommended for brochures. Express prioritises printing and finishing. Same-day production may be possible for shorter brochures with print-ready artwork, approved and paid for before the configured cutoff, subject to capacity and paper stock. Brochures involve printing, cover lamination, folding, collating, stitching and trimming, so cover lamination, higher page counts, larger quantities and wire binding are common reasons a job needs express or standard. Proofing changes also add time. Production completion and delivery arrival are separate.

FAQs

Brochure or booklet: what is the difference?
The construction is similar. We use brochure for marketing pieces with premium covers and finishes, and booklet for programmes, manuals and information documents.
Why must the page count be a multiple of 4?
Saddle-stitched brochures are made from sheets folded in half, each giving four pages. Blank pages can be added to reach the next multiple of 4.
What is creep?
In thicker stitched brochures, the inner pages push outward and get trimmed slightly more. Keeping text away from the outer edge avoids it being cut.
Should I laminate the cover?
Lamination protects covers from scuffs and fingerprints and gives a premium feel. It adds time, so it may affect same-day eligibility.
