Materials
| Self-adhesive vinyl | Container labels, drums and smooth cabinet doors |
|---|---|
| Laminated or overlaminated vinyl | Labels that may be splashed or wiped down frequently |
| ABS plastic | Chemical store doors and indoor wall signs |
| Aluminium composite | Outdoor bulk storage areas and tank enclosures |
Choosing a size
Container labels must fit the container while keeping each pictogram large enough to recognise; small bottles need compact layouts, drums can take A5 or A4 labels. Storeroom door signs are typically A4, and outdoor bulk storage signs larger so they can be read from the approach road or yard.
Standards and compliance
South Africa references SANS 10234 for the classification and labelling of chemicals under the GHS, and the Regulations for Hazardous Chemical Agents under the OHS Act set workplace duties. Container labels usually need more than a pictogram, including signal words and hazard statements drawn from the product's safety data sheet. The customer remains responsible for the content and correctness of chemical labels; we print to the artwork or specification supplied or agreed and do not classify substances.
