Choosing a size
Evacuation plans need enough detail to read while standing in front of them, so A3 is a common minimum and A2 suits larger floors. Orientate each plan so the direction on the drawing matches the direction the viewer is facing, and hang it at eye level near lifts, stairwells and main corridors.
Standards and compliance
Evacuation plans in South Africa commonly use SANS 1186 symbols for exits and fire equipment, and fire plans are often required by local fire by-laws and the emergency preparedness duties under the OHS Act. The floor plan, routes and equipment positions must come from the customer or their fire safety practitioner. The customer remains responsible for the accuracy and compliance of the plan; we print to the artwork or specification supplied or agreed and do not design fire evacuation routes.
