Choosing a size
Road sign sizes depend on traffic speed and the distance a driver needs to see and react. Slow private roads and car parks can use smaller signs than public roads, but they should still be large enough to read in time and be mounted at a consistent height on the left side of the road. Where you are copying an official sign, the SARTSM is the reference for proportions.
Standards and compliance
Road signs in South Africa are defined in the SA Road Traffic Signs Manual (SARTSM) and the National Road Traffic Regulations. Signs on public roads may only be erected by or with the approval of the relevant road authority, so the signs we print are intended for private property unless you have that approval. The customer remains responsible for placement and for whether a sign is legally enforceable; we print to the artwork or specification supplied or agreed.
