Same-Day Comb Binding

Comb binding uses a plastic spine with curved fingers inserted through rectangular punched holes. It is practical and reopenable, which makes it popular for student assignments, internal reports, manuals and any document that may need pages added or replaced later.

Artwork requirements

Leave at least 12 to 15 mm clear on the binding edge for the punched holes.
Provide the sheet count so the correct comb diameter is used; an undersized comb will not close properly.
Supply printed covers as separate pages if you want them in front of the clear cover.
If binding your own printed sheets, make sure they are in order and all the same size.
Avoid placing tables or images across the binding edge on double-sided spreads.

Turnaround options

Comb binding is quick per copy, so many jobs fit standard same-day work. Express helps when there are many copies. A booked same-day slot is subject to product eligibility, stock, capacity, quantity, artwork readiness and finishing, with full payment, usable files and approvals before the configured cutoff, and the 40% Same-Day Priority Production surcharge applies to the eligible printing and production subtotal. Very large quantities, documents thicker than our largest comb, non-standard sizes or comb colours not in stock push a job off same-day.

FAQs

Can pages be added later?

Yes. Comb binding can be opened, pages inserted and closed again. That is its main advantage over wire or glued binding.

Will a comb-bound document lie flat?

It opens fairly flat but does not fold back as neatly as wire binding.

Can you bind a very thin document?

Yes. Small combs suit a few sheets, though for very thin documents a staple or saddle stitch may look neater.

Can my university's colour requirements be met?

Comb and cover colours depend on stock. Check your institution's requirements and ask us before ordering.
