Choosing a size
On mine and quarry sites, signs are often read from moving heavy vehicles with high cab positions, so they need large formats and short messages, placed where drivers can see them in time. Pedestrian-level signs at plant entrances can be smaller. Many mines have their own sign standard that sets sizes and layouts.
Standards and compliance
Mines and quarries in South Africa fall under the Mine Health and Safety Act rather than the OHS Act, and many operations have site-specific signage standards that build on SANS 1186. Sign content and placement should come from the mine's safety department or their standard. The customer remains responsible for compliance; we print to the artwork or specification supplied or agreed, and this is not legal advice.
